Floating Around Portland – WDS2014

Floating Portland
I recently visited Portland, Oregon for the third time to attend the World Domination Summit. It’s an amazing event with world class speakers, great attendees and tons of fun activities. There are lots of people writing about how great the event was, so I’m just going to share this short video with some photos of me levitating around the city.

Enjoy!

Dogs of Chiang Mai Photo Post

There are A LOT of dogs on the streets of Chiang Mai. Istanbul is a city of cats, but Chiang Mai definitely has the canine crowd covered. Many of the pictures here are of pets, often wearing clothes despite the heat. However, most dogs appear to be strays and are often in pretty rough shape. Many are left abandoned at temples or just stay in front of a business or house that provides food on a regular basis.

What these photographs don’t reveal is the heat of Thailand. Temperatures can get higher than 40 degrees Celsius and that means the dogs do a whole lot of nothing during the day. Most are just sprawled out in the shade to try and keep cool.

Enjoy the photos.

A Week in Chiang Mai – Photo Diary

Here is a selection of photos to show a little about what our life is like in Thailand. We tend to get into a routine and do the same things on a regular basis. Our life is simple, but very enjoyable. There isn’t a day that goes by that we aren’t grateful for the opportunities we have. We live in amazing times.

Visa Run to Myanmar

Every digital nomad knows this story well. After two or three months you have to travel to another country to renew visas for another short stay. Fortunately, visa runs are well established in Thailand and there are tours specifically for getting a new stamp in your passport. A day trip to Myanmar from Chiang Mai costs less than $20 with lunch and some sight-seeing included. Now we are good for another two months in Thailand.

Great Thai Food

One of our favourite restaurants in Chiang Mai is Imm Aim (formerly Pun Pun). We go there 4 or 5 times a week because the food and atmosphere are great. I love small family run restaurants and the open garden is so relaxing. Imm Aim is a must try for …

Photos of Budapest Cafés

Ráday utca, Cafe streetBudapest: Café Culture

In another photo post, I wrote about why Budapest is one of my favourite cities in the world. There are few cities that can match Budapest for shear beauty, culture, good food and of course, its amazing cafés. The best part, is that Budapest and Hungary in general remain very affordable. Paris is nice, but it can easily be four times the cost.

My wife and I are huge coffee people and Budapest cafés don’t disappoint. Most are still one-off, privately owned restaurants with huge amounts of character and charm. In virtually every café, you can get great food, decent wines and alcohol, all with full service. They are not the generic chain stores that have proliferated the North America.

Most cafés have are adorned with interesting art and furniture and attract a very diverse audience. Even the way that Europeans drink coffee is so different. People go to cafés to talk and socialize, not just get some work done or pick up an over-sized dose of caffeine on the way to work. I just shake my head every time I see cars lining up to buy coffee through a drive-through in North America.

London is definitely one of the great cities of the world. It is an amazing concentration of everything this planet has to offer. There is such an energy and excitement everywhere you go.

The biggest attraction for us has to be the theater district. New York is great, but there is something special about London. Walking through historical buildings on narrow roads through crowded public squares intensifies the excitement of going to see a musical.

The city Drumhelller is about 1.5 hours drive from my home city of Calgary in Alberta. It is home to the Royal Tyrrell Museum which houses one of the world’s largest collections of dinosaur fossils.

The museum is a great place to get a feel for the variety and size of dinosaurs that once roamed the earth more than 65 million years ago. It really makes human existence on this planet pale in comparison.

The area around Drumheller also contains visible records of Earth’s history. Centuries of climate change are on display everywhere in the region in the layers of rock sediment. The valleys formed by retreating glaciers are spectacular.

Drumheller is a great visit if you are travelling through western Canada. It is beautiful country and it is a good …
